Eye cream for dark circles
If you suffer from dark circles under your eyes – and many of us do as we get older – more than anything you want to get rid of them. A good diet, plenty of rest and high level sun protection all help to stop the problem getting worse but a targeted eye cream can make a big improvement.
So what is the best eye cream for dark circles?
Anti aging skin care has come a long way in recent years and you can now buy great products which specifically target the problem.
You may already be using a general eye cream as part of your skin care regimen – but is it sufficiently targeted?
If the dark area under your eyes bothers you more than wrinkles then there are two main approaches – you can hide them with a good under eye concealer or use a special eye cream for dark circles to reduce or eliminate them. Some under eye creams aim to do both – treating the problem and concealing the circles at the same time.
Most dark circle products will be formulated to be especially light and cooling – gels or serums rather than heavier creams. The key ingredients are antioxidants like vitamin K and vitamin C to aid weakened capilliaries, Kojic acid for skin lightening and UV protection to prevent further sun damage. Like many active ingredients both vitamin K and vitamin C can be unstable in a cream or gel and are best in microencapsulated form.
Here’s my choice of five of the best dark circle eye creams that come highly recommended:
1. DDF Erase Eye Gel: This is a very effective cooling gel which targets dark circles through a combination of a natural skin lightener (Kojic acid) and microencapsulated vitamin K which acts to strengthen capillary walls. Weaker capillary walls as we get older are one of the main causes of dark circles around the eyes. DDF Erase Eye Gel has some of the best reviews I’ve seen on SkincareRX and other sites.
2. Colorescience My Favorite Eyes Creme – a combination concealer and treatment this product is an excellent light reflective concealer with added vitamin K plus titanium and zinc oxide for sun protection.
3. Sircuit Skin White Out Under Eye Treatment - this is a light true white cream with high levels of titanium dioxide to protect the delicate eye are from further sun damage. The active ingredient to tackle the dark circles is L-Arbutin which promotes skin circulation combined with rosewood to regenerate skin cells. Apparently very effective.
4. Dermaceuticals LRS Lipid Recovery Eye Serum – originally developed as a professional treatment for use after cosmetic surgery procedures this serum comes in gel capsule form so that the high levels of microencapsulated vitamin K and other actives (retinol a) stay fresh and potent on application. The serum has been extensively tested for clinical use and has been proven to reduce the appearance of dark circles and reverse UV induced skin damage.
5. Skinceuticals Eye Gel AOX – a gel serum based on vitamin C as the main ingredient to brighten and lighten the under eye area and reduce dark circles. Also contains sodium hyaluronate to boost moisture levels and ferulic acid as an antioxidant. Skinceuticals products are highly regarded and this has positive reviews.
My personal choice if you want the best eye cream for dark circles would be to buy DDF Erase Eye Gel as so many positive customers surely can’t be wrong. You can always use a good under eye concealer as well so you hide your dark circles and get rid of them at the same time.
