A good anti aging moisturizer is a beauty essential that every woman needs to use every single day.
As your skin ages you need to provide daily hydration and protection from harmful free radicals. Starting to protect your skin in your twenties is ideal but by 40 good anti aging skin care is essential if you want younger looking skin in your 50′s and beyond.
And if you think all moisturizers are more or less the same – think again. That may have been true in the past but things have changed.
If you just want to moisturize your skin and nothing more then pick the best skin moisturizer you can afford – go for a long lasting hydrating cream so your skin is plumped up and moist all day.
If you want an anti aging effect as well then you need to consider products with higher levels of active anti aging ingredients to help fight the worst effects of aging – wrinkles, uneven skin tone and loss of radiance. These products cost more but you are paying for the best moisturizer for aging skin you can afford.
So – how do you pick a good one without wasting oodles of money by trial and error?
Start with some basics – the very best face moisturizers should offer:
- Skin hydration throughout the day without heaviness or greasiness
- A great makeup base – no clogging or sliding
- Intensified anti aging effects – a high level of antioxidants, retinol or peptides to protect your skin from free radical damage .
If you’re looking for the best skin moisturizer with a high level of active anti aging ingredients – dermatologist recommended skin care brands should be your first choice. Skin care brands headed by dermatologists tend to concentrate on delivering the latest anti aging ingredients at levels that cheaper or mass produced brands can’t afford.
So – here’s my personal selection of five great anti aging moisturizers to consider:
SkinMedica Dermal Repair Cream SkinMedica make wonderful dermatologist grade skin care with quality ingredients in advanced delivery systems. This is a luxurious silky moisturizer which rejuvenates skin and provides antioxidant protection based on high levels of Vitamins C, E and A in a unique formulation. Soothes and repairs sun damaged skin working on age spots and uneven skin tone. Essential fatty acids help the skin to repair and rehydrate. It can be used day and night and a little goes a long way. Good reviews from lots of satisfied customers.
MD Forte Facial Cream III A lovely cream that softens and refines skin without oily residue – great for sensitive, mature and dehydrated skin and works effectively on hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and acne scars. There are three levels depending on the amount of glycolic compound – from 15% in the Level I cream to the top level of 30% at Level III. Despite that the cream is gentle in action and luxurious in texture. Great 5 star reviews from satisfied users at SkinCareRx and excellent value.
Skinceuticals Daily Moisture – Skinceuticals are renowned for their highly advanced skin care and this cream comes in normal/dry or normal/oily versions. A beautiful cream to wear containing extremely high levels of pure vitamin E and marine extracts for anti aging protection. Both versions are best sellers with very positive reviews.
Kinerase Cream – Kinerase is a best selling pharmaceutical strength skin care line based on Kinetin – a key active anti aging ingredient with the same anti wrinkle effectiveness as Retinol A. Kinetin is derived from a natural active extracted from blue anemone flowers that stop the flowers withering. A little pricier than some of the other creams but will last a long time. Highly recommended. Fans of the Kinerase range include Jennifer Anniston.
Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture Definitely one of the best moisturizers around. You can always depend on Murad products to deliver results because they are based on solid research and extensive testing and this is one of his top products. Long lasting moisturization in an ultra concentrated non-greasy formula. Natural fruit oils and shea butter provide high levels of hydration in a lovely silky soft feeling cream. A unique collagen support complex boosts resilience and smooths away fine lines and wrinkles. Fantastic product with great reviews from many happy users.
If you want luxurious hydration and added anti wrinkle effects then any of the products featured in this review should do a good job. My personal favorite of all the great creams listed here has to be Murad Hydro Dynamic Ultimate Moisture.
Whatever you go for – you can be sure that money spent on an anti aging moisturizer is an investment in younger looking skin you’ll never regret.
marciella is correct. i am a huge fan of made from earth skincare
I put the Olive Night Creme (from Made from Earth) on at night and immediately feel my face more moisturized. In the morning my face also feels softer, smoother and not as tired as the days when I do not use it. it has really worked for me!!! it is non greasy and my fine lines are not as noticeably. I do think this is a great anti aging moisturizer.
Hi Parvi – good question! My view is that 26 is too young to be using a high end anti aging moisturizer or serum. What you really need is to follow a regular skin care regimen (cleanse, tone and moisturize) every night and morning with products that are suited to your skin type. Face moisturizers with a high level of anti aging ingredients are simply not needed and as they tend to be expensive you are going to waste a lot of money over time. Worse as products like this tend to be ultra moisturizing you could end up with skin reactions, puffiness or breakouts. Hope that helps.
Hi I am 26 my friends told me to start using anti ageing cream from now is it good to use at this age I am afraid that because of the cream my skin is overloaded with chemicals now I am using Dior anti aging serum kindly clarify me
Thanks for your comment. At your age the key issues are hydration and fragility of skin. Murad Resurgence is a great skin care line for older skins and you can get introductory packs which are very good value. Follow the ads or links on the site or just go direct. Liz Earle is an English brand which I know very well based on all natural ingredients – the products are sold through her website and the SuperSkin range is the one to try for older skin. It is excellent and not expensive although I’m not sure about deliveries to Chile!
I read somewhere in some oprah publication (or somewhere LIKE that) that by the age of 50, a female needs a good moisturizer, which should be worn daily to prevent and treat wrinkles. Luckily for me, a co-worker in my office recommended the Shielo Complexion Moisturizer.
The Shielo Moisturizer is a great price for the quality of the ingredients, and I though “why not?” .
I tried many expensive creams. Nothing works like this one, just try for 1 month at least and you will see how your wrinkles get thinner and thinner.
I use it every other night on my forehead, after I noticed very fine lines criss-crossing my forehead. After one month, I noticed the fine lines on my forehead are completely GONE. My face looks 25 years old again. Amazing. I’m going to tackle my eyes next…
What brand names are best productos for a 73 yrs. old woman with dry skin?…could you please give a brand name? I live in Chile and products I have used are very, very expensive…so I would liket know a product that is not that expensive but will help…Thank you, Selideh Lapham
Marciella – thanks for the comment and the suggestion. I haven’t tried this anti aging moisturizer myself but it sound great. As it is such a rich concentrated face cream I am surprised it works so well on the under eye area. Often rich creams applied as eye creams cause puffiness which then produces more wrinkles! It’s good to have something extra nourishing for use when skin feels drier than normal.
If you haven’t discovered ‘Made from Earth’ yet, their “Vitamin Enhanced Moisturizer” cream is marvelous. It’s worth every penny – a jar will last you forever since there’s no water in it, it’s a very concentrated and rich emulsion of natural ingredients. it heals uncomfortable dry patches anywhere on your body, it softens cuticles, it makes a great eye cream when my eyes are irritated by allergies.
It is a little rich and heavy for a regular face moisturizer for me (my skin is normal although it’s a little dry in the winter), although from time to time if my face is feeling tight I will dab on a little at night.
