Dermal fillers work on sun damage - scientific proof
Any one who knows anything about anti aging skin care knows about the importance of collagen. Many anti aging treatments - as well as anti aging skin care products - use collagen as the key active ingredient.
Injectible dermal fillers like Restylane based on hyaluronic acid - or collagen - have proved to be one of the most popular anti aging treatments around. Hyaluronic acid is a compound that occurs naturally in the skin and connective tissue - loss of collagen shows in wrinkles often caused by sun damage.
In a recent survey 22 million thirty-something women in America said they'd be prepared to have collagen injections if it would fight skin aging. Not surprisingly - cosmetic companies and ingredient manufacturers have been keen to prove that hyaluronic acid does what it says and to understand exactly how dermal fillers work on the skin.
A study completed recently by a group of scientists at the University of Michigan Medical School, investigated the effect hyaluronic acid has on individuals suffering from sun damaged skin. The conclusions were that hyaluronic acid appears to fill spaces in the skin's structure and - when injected - stimulates the natural production of collagen as well.
But the use of collagen in anti aging treatments isn't confined to clinical procedures. For many years research has been underway to create delivery systems capable of getting hyaluronic acid and other highly active anti aging ingredients deep into the skin - without injections. Cosmetic companies know there is a huge demand out there for anti aging skin care that works without the pain and downtime of medical intervention.
The good news is that the research is starting to pay off - high end anti aging skin care now offers results very close to clinical treatments. Better not to get sun damaged skin in the first place of course - proper sun protection beats any form of anti aging treatment afterwards.
But if you've got some sun damage already - it's good to know it can be treated and dermal fillers are just one way to do it!
