Protect and Perfect Intense secret ingredient
Boots No7 best selling Protect and Perfect Serum is now available in an Intense version – but how does it differ from the original Protect and Perfect and should you buy it?
The answer is that it all depends on the condition of your skin.
Protect and Perfect Intense is aimed at women with deeper lines and wrinkles and sun damaged skin who want the anti aging benefits that the original beauty serum from Boots No7 delivers but in a more powerful formulation.
Apart from one key ingredient – the formulation is not radically different from the original Protect and Perfect Serum which was sold in the US as Restore and Renew.
Protect and Perfect Intense is based on the same anti aging compound as the original – a powerful combination of retinyl palmitate, antioxidants and peptides. The added ingredient is alfalfa extract which intensifies the anti aging effects of the other active ingredients.
Boots have tested the product to a very high level and results show that improvements to the skin came from the active ingredients in the formulation rather than the simple use of good quality basic moisturization. An important point it seems to me. Any good moisturizer will deliver some skin benefits – but how do you know the active ingredients you’re paying for actually deliver younger looking skin?
The extract of alfalfa in the Intense version of Protect and Perfect produces a more intensive wrinkle reducing action, making it suitable for deeper lines and wrinkles. Protect and Perfect Intense also has a richer more luxurious feel than the basic version which is lighter.
So the question is – should you upgrade if you’re already a user of Protect and Perfect and if you’re not – which one should you go for?
the original Protect and Perfect is a great beauty serum for dealing with fine lines and wrinkles – the first signs of aging as they appear on your skin. If you have deeper wrinkles. sun damage and more mature skin then Protect and Perfect Intense would be a good move.
The reality is you can afford to try Protect and Perfect Intense since Boots have set a very reasonable recommended retail price – especially considering all the testing and research they’ve splashed out on.
The new version is available online at Amazon and at Target. I have linked to the Amazon store because they keep a watch on price and usually ship through Target anyway. It also means if Target are out of stock Amazon can usually offer an alternative shipper.
I’m already a committed user of Protect and Perfect Intense – I get mine from my local Boots store here in the UK. Funny thing is I pay an awful lot more than the Amazon online price!
Protect and Perfect Intense test results
Boots No7 has had amazing success worldwide with Protect and Perfect or Restore and Renew as it was originally called in the US – after test results showed the anti aging serum actually worked.
The latest version – Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum – is a more powerful form of the original retinol based product and Boots No7 has gone even further to show customers what it can do.
Protect and Perfect Intense has been tested in an independent trial carried out over 12 months – an unheard of time for a skin care product.
Most trials for anti aging skin care are much, much shorter and many don’t use real human volunteers – results are based on laboratory testing of skin cell cultures.
The test was a ‘randomized double-blind controlled trial’ – the first ever for an over the counter anti aging product.
Boots used 60 volunteers – half were given the Protect and Perfect Intense and half a placebo (Protect and Perfect Intense without the anti aging ingredients).
After six months all the volunteers used Protect and Perfect Intense for a further six months and results were assessed by an independent dermatologist.
Impressive – definitely. Seventy percent of the volunteers using the product showed a marked improvement in the appearance of photo aged skin.
“With this research, we have shown a commercially available anti-aging product can actually improve the appearance of facial wrinkles when used in the long-term”
Stewart Long: Chief Scientific Advisor Boots Skin Care
The women using Protect and Perfect Intense said results were immediate - more radiant, softer and smoother skin. After two weeks skin was reported to be firmer, and after three weeks deep lines and wrinkles were less visible. By four weeks skin appeared younger looking.
This study and the revolutionary research behind it is part of a Boots plan to provide compelling proof that the No7 anti aging skin care works. In the depth and length of the clinical testing done – Boots have set a new standard for other beauty companies to test their anti aging skin care to the same level.
There’s no doubt about it – when we buy anti aging skin care there’s a huge choice out there – and much of it has little or no published data on whether it does what the makers claim.
Boots aim to change all that – and within a price the average skin care buyer can afford. Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum – to give it it’s full name has been clinically proven to improve the appearance of deep wrinkles and to have a long term impact on sun damaged skin.
Competitors to Boots in the anti aging skin care market have criticized the results – well they would wouldn’t they?
But the way I see it – by ploughing money into clinical testing for a very reasonably priced product – Boots are being smart.
After all – they proved that Protect and Perfect Intense works and they’re selling it at a price that we can all afford. Aren’t most of us going to be tempted to give it a try.
Restore and Renew review
I finally got my hands on some of the hottest anti aging serums around – Boots No 7 Restore and Renew (now universally known under it’s British name of Protect and Perfect Skin Serum).
I gave up begging at my local Boots store and finally placed an order on the internet via the Boots UK website. My little parcel arrived last week and I’ve been using it ever since. Read more

Affordable anti aging skin care
Anti aging skin care sometimes seems like the early days of motor car manufacture.
Only instead of the Ford Model T being offered in – ‘any color as long as it’s black’ – anti aging creams are sold for ‘any price as long as it’s expensive’.
To be fair – top of the line skin care usually means the latest research and high levels of expensive active ingredients that penetrate the under layers of your skin.
All these things cost money and carry prices to match.
But what if you don’t want to pay high prices for an anti aging cream or serum but you do want younger looking skin?
Well the good news is that there are some excellent anti aging skin care products available at very reasonable prices. Manufacturers are increasingly selling anti aging skin care at much more affordable prices knowing that accessible pricing means more sales and more profit in the long run.
But how do you sort out the scams from the affordable anti aging skin care that works.
After all – paying less for something that’s doesn’t do anything to improve your wrinkles or skin tone is only false economy.
So – here’s some tips for creating an anti aging skin care regimen on a budget.
- Combine your products- for instance – buy a cleanser that also acts as a toner and a daily moisturizer that doubles as a night cream
- Limit yourself to four products for your basic skin care routine – a combined cleanser/toner, an all purpose anti aging moisturizer, an eye cream and an exfoliator
- Buy online so you can get special offers and guaranteed prices plus the advantage of returns if needed. Buy all the items at once and take advantage of free delivery.
- Double up and save – once you know a product works – many online stores offer better prices for 2 or even 3 products at a time. Or they give additional gifts and samples with multiple buys
- Stick to affordable skin care brands with excellent reputations – Philosophy, TX Systems, and the hot brand currently – Boots No7 – come to mind but there are others.
All very well you might say – but where’s the proof? Well – I gave myself $125 total spend and here’s what I came up with:
Step One – Cleanser-Toner: I chose Philosophy Purity Made Simple. Dissolves dirt and make up debris (including eye make up) and leaves your skin ultra soft and deeply clean with minimum fuss. The product gets rave reviews on all the forums I’ve looked at. At $20 it won’t break the bank and the size up gives you double the quantity for $32.
Step Two – Moisturizer: Philosophy Hope in a Jar hits the mark in this category. Coming in at $35 this world-famous, high spec anti aging cream is great value. Beta glucan is the chief active ingredient – a powerful antioxidant, which works with the lactic acid (fruit acids) to give you greater radiance and softness. Ecstatic reviews report younger looking, glowing skin.
For an extra $5 you can get a day cream and a separate night cream from the Boots No7 line. Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Day Cream is a velvety smooth cream with a broad spectrum SPF 15 and you can partner it with Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Night Cream
for maximum anti aging effect.
Step Three – Anti aging Eye Cream: a must-have for the delicate skin around the eyes. My top choice here has to be Boots No7 Time Resist Day and Night Eye Care which is two separate products in a double dispenser for a fantastic price. The day gel cools and soothes puffiness while the nourishing night cream uses pro-retinol to reduce wrinkling around your eyes. Both are fragrance free.
Step Four – Exfoliate: an essential step at least twice a week to slough off dead skin cells and allow key anti aging ingredients to get to work quickly. NuCell Papaya Skin Exfoliator can be used daily as it is a gentle exfoliant for mature and dry skin. Enriched with apricot kernel oil, glycerin and walnut shell powder to leave skin clear, radiant and soft as a baby. Restores glow, helps erase sun damage and – most importantly for 40+ skin – hydrates and all this for only $16
Mind you – the product I have on my bathroom shelves is Boots No7 Total Renewal Micro-Dermabrasion Exfoliator and I find it better than many high-end microdermabrasion products. Evens out skin tone and gradually fades darker sun spots whilst giving you a lovely radiant glow and it beats just about everything on price. Use twice a week for best results.
There you have it. You can get all the products you need for a complete four step regimen for under $100 and even if you choose the most expensive products in the list – you’ll still come in at under $125. And don’t forget that all these products will last around a couple of months at least so the daily or weekly cost is really good value.
If you want an extra anti aging boost and don’t mind spending a little more – then I would definitely add a good retinol cream or peptide serum after you cleanse/tone and before you moisturize every day.
The best budget retinol product around currently is Afirm 3x – extremely high levels of retinol in a great product that works.
So it can be done – you can have excellent anti aging skin care at an affordable price and be well on the way to younger looking skin without breaking the bank!
A British anti aging miracle – Restore and Renew
‘Number 7 British miracle serum’ has suddenly become the most popular search term for visitors to this site.
In the last few days I’ve noticed an avalanche of visitors all arriving here after entering similar search terms into their browsers. The interesting thing is that there’s not a thing on the site about this product – at least not till now.
